Fix a dog’s chained medication reminder app with Claude Code

WorkedEvidence: Described by posterPosted Last checked

Tania Papazafeiropoulou used Claude Code to fix silent alerts and duplicates in Mario’s chained medication Expo app.

How to use this

  1. Tap Copy prompt.
  2. Open the tool the case used (or a similar one) and paste the prompt; results may differ from the original.
  3. Paste it into the message box.
  4. Send it, then read the answer before acting on it.
New to this? What's a prompt?

A prompt is the message you send to the AI tool. Copy the one on this page, put your own details where it asks, and read the answer before you act on it.

Recreated prompt

The source didn't share its exact prompt, so we wrote one from what it describes. The result shown is the source's, not ours.

What the prompt labels mean

The person didn't share their exact words, so we wrote this from what they described. We haven't tested it, and they didn't use this exact version.

Help me fix my Expo React Native dog medication app. Notifications must stay until tapped, sound must work in the background, chained steps must respect delays (ointment 20 minutes after drops), and I need a settings page so I can change times without editing code. Also stop duplicate snooze notifications.

Try this in:

Sends the Recreated prompt shown above. ChatGPT and Grok open with it filled in, and ChatGPT may send it straight away. Gemini and Claude open empty, so we copy the prompt for you to paste. Every button also copies it.

The source used Claude Code, which can take actions on your computer or in a browser. These are general chat tools, so results may differ, and a normal chat may only give you a plan.

Opens in a new tab. We don't see what you send.

Optional stronger version

Our rewrite with extra checks. The poster didn't test it.

Before you start, ask me 1–3 short questions about the details below and wait for my answers. Once I've answered, confirm the plan in one line and run the whole task start to finish.

Goal: Repair and extend a dog medication reminder app so chained doses cannot be missed.

Questions to ask me first:
- What is the exact medication chain and timing?
- Which Android OEM quirks have we seen?
- Should settings allow adding new chain steps?

Inputs (fill in or confirm):
- Chain: [DROPS THEN OINTMENT +20M]
- Platform: [EXPO / ANDROID]
- Settings needs: [HOURS / DELAYS]

Rules:
- Sticky notifications must reappear if swiped on OEMs that allow it.
- Snooze scheduling must be concurrency-safe.
- Do not change clinical dosing—only reminder UX.

Checkpoint: Reproduce the sound and duplicate bugs before large refactors.

If you get stuck: If expo-notifications lacks an API, use a documented native patch and patch-package.

Verify before you finish: Background sound works; swipe cannot permanently clear a sticky dose; duplicates are gone in tests.

Output: Fixed app build plus settings UI for chains.

Done when: I no longer miss Mario’s drops.

Outcome

Tania Papazafeiropoulou’s dog Mario needs timed eye drops then ointment twenty minutes later, plus other meds. A year-old Expo app had silent background notifications, swipe-away sticky alerts, and duplicate snoozes. With Claude Code (Sonnet 4.6) over a couple of sessions the sound field bug was fixed, Android sticky deleteIntent behavior was patched, an AsyncStorage race was replaced with an in-memory Set, and a settings UI for prescription changes was added—so drops are no longer missed.
