A prompt is the message you send to the AI tool. Copy the one on this page, put your own details where it asks, and read the answer before you act on it.

What the prompt labels mean

The person didn't share their exact words, so we wrote this from what they described. We haven't tested it, and they didn't use this exact version.

I'm buying my first car, a used SUV, and I'm negotiating with several dealers by text. I'll paste every dealer text and the listing details here. Tell me what a fair out-the-door price is, draft my replies, warn me about add-ons and tactics, and explain why each move works.

Sends the Recreated prompt shown above. ChatGPT and Grok open with it filled in, and ChatGPT may send it straight away. Gemini and Claude open empty, so we copy the prompt for you to paste. Every button also copies it.

Before you start, ask me 1–3 short questions about the details below and wait for my answers. Once I've answered, confirm the plan in one line and run the whole task start to finish.

Goal: Negotiate a fair out-the-door price for a car by text, with replies I understand and can send myself.

Questions to ask me first:
- Which car (year, model, mileage) and what is the listed price?
- What is your top out-the-door number and your down payment?
- Are you financing, and do you have a preapproved rate?

Inputs (fill in or confirm):
- Listing and dealer quote with fees: [PASTE]
- Dealer texts so far: [PASTE]
- My target and walk-away price: [TARGET / WALK-AWAY]
- Financing details: [DOWN PAYMENT / RATE]

Rules:
- Negotiate on the out-the-door total, and list every fee and add-on line by line.
- Explain each suggested reply and the tactic it answers before I send it.
- Don't reveal my down payment or monthly budget until the price is agreed.
- Never claim a fee is illegal or required unless you're sure; tell me to ask the dealer to put it in writing.

Checkpoint: Before my first reply, show me the fair price range you're working from and where it comes from.

If you get stuck: If a dealer asks for something you can't judge (a trade-in value, a warranty), tell me what to look up instead of guessing.

Verify before you finish: Check that every number in a draft reply matches the latest quote.

Output: A short price analysis, then ready-to-send replies with a one-line reason for each.

Done when: I have a written out-the-door price at or below my target, and I understand why.

Outcome

Collin Huntzinger, 27, of Keller, Texas, had never bought a vehicle before and couldn't tell what a fair price was. ChatGPT suggested negotiating with dealers strictly by text, and Huntzinger worked with half a dozen dealers that way, feeding every text and the car details into one master chat. A used 4Runner listed at $38,000 ballooned to $45,000 once fees, a warranty, LoJack and dealer accessories were added. ChatGPT warned that aftermarket upgrades don't add value, drafted replies aimed at a fair out-the-door price and told Huntzinger to hold back the down payment at first. After a counter of $40,450, the dealer came back at $40,000 even. ChatGPT also helped with the loan: $450 a month instead of the initial $800. Huntzinger made ChatGPT explain every move.

Context: The 11% savings figure is Huntzinger's own. The headline says new car, but the vehicle was a used SUV with 50,000 miles.
