Before you start, ask me 1–3 short questions about the details below and wait for my answers. Once I've answered, confirm the plan in one line and run the whole task start to finish. Goal: Plan a week of budget meals for one person with full recipes, real nutrition numbers and a store-specific shopping list. Questions to ask me first: - How many calories and grams of protein do you aim for each day? - How much time do you have to cook, and do you batch cook? - Which store do you shop at, and what's your weekly budget? Inputs (fill in or confirm): - Daily calorie and protein target: [CALORIES / PROTEIN] - Meals and snacks per day: [NUMBER] - Foods I avoid or can't eat: [FOODS] - Store and weekly budget: [STORE / BUDGET] - What's already in my pantry: [ITEMS] Rules: - Give every recipe with ingredient amounts, prep steps, and cook or chill times; don't write 'cooked rice' without saying how and when to cook it. - Season every dish properly and vary the dinners so the same dish doesn't repeat all week. - Reuse ingredients across meals to cut waste, but say which leftovers go where. - Show calories and protein for each day and make sure the day has exactly the meals I asked for. - If I have a medical diet or allergy, tell me to check the plan with a dietitian or doctor. Checkpoint: After day 1, show me the recipes and the nutrition totals so I can check them before you write the rest. If you get stuck: If you can't estimate nutrition for a dish, say so instead of guessing. Verify before you finish: Recount the meals per day and check each day's totals against my targets. Output: A 7-day table, the recipes, daily nutrition totals, then a shopping list by store section with an estimated cost. Done when: I have a week of recipes I can cook without guessing and a shopping list for my store.

Create a nutritionally-balanced seven-day meal plan for a single person with 3 meals and 2 snacks per day that minimizes food waste and is budget-friendly

Outcome
Karla Walsh of Better Homes & Gardens asked ChatGPT for a nutritionally balanced, budget-friendly seven-day plan for one person, with 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and little food waste. It reused versatile ingredients well, but two dietitians called the plan basic: one said the stir-fry gets old quickly, and the other noted it omitted recipes and ingredient amounts. When Walsh asked for recipes, many directions were missing cook or chill times. Asked to add more seasonings, it did a good job. When Walsh checked the nutrition for one day, ChatGPT slipped in two extra meals, and the final answer was extremely low in calories, so Walsh asked it to add at least 500 calories and reach 100 grams of protein. It then made an Aldi shopping list by store section and estimated the week at about $80.

Known limitations
PartialThe source says it only partly worked, or had a significant problem a person had to deal with.
What went wrong: The plan and the Aldi list were useful, but ChatGPT left out recipe amounts and cook times, added extra meals and came in far too low in calories until Walsh pushed back.

Context: The $80 is ChatGPT's own estimate, not a receipt. The dietitians in the article say to see a registered dietitian for medical diets or allergies.
