What the prompt labels mean

These are the person's own words, as shared in the source.

I have 4 raised garden beds, 3.5ft wide by 6.5ft long. Using the square foot garden method, can you create a list of items that work well together in each bed, factoring in companion plants? Please include: basil, fennel, tomatoes (large and small, 2 varieties of each), cucamelons, brussel sprouts, sweet peppers, poblanos, strawberries, cucumbers, broccoli, broccolini, parsley, cilantro, dill, nasturtium, strawberry, onions, scallions, cabbage, and any others that may work. Please include one climbing plant in each bed, and indicate which items should go in which rows in each bed, perhaps in a table.

Before you start, ask me 1–3 short questions about the details below and wait for my answers. Once I've answered, confirm the plan in one line and run the whole task start to finish.

Goal: Plan what to plant in each of my raised garden beds, with good companion plants and enough sun for each.

Questions to ask me first:
- How many beds, and what size?
- Where are you, and which way do the beds face?
- Will there be trellises, fences or trees that cast shade?

Inputs (fill in or confirm):
- Number and size of beds: [BEDS AND SIZE]
- Plants I want: [PLANT LIST]
- My area or growing zone: [ZONE OR LOCATION]
- Garden or yard layout: [UPLOAD LAYOUT PHOTO OR DESCRIBE]

Rules:
- Use the square foot method and give a table per bed showing what goes in each square.
- Put tall and climbing plants where they won't shade shorter ones, using the layout and sun direction.
- Keep plants that shouldn't grow together apart, and say why in a few words.
- Say when a plant on my list doesn't suit my area or season.
- Mark anything you're unsure about so I can check it with a local garden center or extension office.

Checkpoint: After the first bed plan, stop and ask if the format works before planning the rest.

If you get stuck: If you can't read part of my layout, tell me what you can see and ask about the rest.

Verify before you finish: Check that every plant on my list is placed or explained, and no bed is over its square count.

Output: One table per bed plus a short list of companion and shade notes.

Done when: I have a bed-by-bed plan I can copy into my garden planner.

Outcome

Marie Poulin, a fairly new gardener with a permaculture certificate, asked ChatGPT to lay out four 3.5 ft by 6.5 ft raised beds using the square foot method, with companion plants, one climbing plant per bed and a table of what goes where. ChatGPT returned a bed-by-bed plan that Poulin called a pretty great starting point. Poulin then added tall arched trellises between beds 1 and 2 and between beds 3 and 4, and ChatGPT reworked the layout to put climbers near them. Next, Poulin uploaded a rough layout made in the Garden Planner app and asked whether there were any issues; ChatGPT recognized the vegetables from their tiny icons and flagged possible problems. Finally, Poulin uploaded a base map of the yard so ChatGPT could factor in where the beds sit and how sun and shade fall. Poulin went back to the Garden Planner app and adjusted the plan, while noting that answers still need cross-checking.
