A prompt is the message you send to the AI tool. Copy the one on this page, put your own details where it asks, and read the answer before you act on it.

What the prompt labels mean

The person didn't share their exact words, so we wrote this from what they described. We haven't tested it, and they didn't use this exact version.

I've uploaded the syllabi for all my courses this semester. Summarize the key dates and create one clear timeline of every assignment, quiz and exam across all courses, in date order.

Try this in:

Sends the Recreated prompt shown above. ChatGPT and Grok open with it filled in, and ChatGPT may send it straight away. Gemini and Claude open empty, so we copy the prompt for you to paste. Every button also copies it.

Opens in a new tab. We don't see what you send.

Optional stronger version

Our rewrite with extra checks. The poster didn't test it.

Before you start, ask me 1–3 short questions about the details below and wait for my answers. Once I've answered, confirm the plan in one line and run the whole task start to finish.

Goal: Turn my course syllabi into one dated timeline of every deadline so nothing sneaks up on me.

Questions to ask me first:
- Which courses and syllabi are you uploading?
- When does the term start and end?
- Do you have work or other fixed commitments to plan around?

Inputs (fill in or confirm):
- Syllabi or course outlines: [UPLOADED SYLLABI]
- Term start and end dates: [DATES]
- Other commitments: [WORK / FAMILY SCHEDULE]

Rules:
- List every graded item with course, date, weight and the syllabus page it came from.
- Mark weeks with two or more big deadlines as crunch weeks.
- Flag any date that's vague or missing instead of guessing.
- Remind me that instructors can change dates, so I should check the course site.

Checkpoint: Show the timeline first, then ask whether I want a weekly study plan built from it.

If you get stuck: If a syllabus lists weeks instead of dates, convert them using the term start date and say so.

Verify before you finish: Count graded items per course and compare with each syllabus to make sure none were missed.

Output: A date-ordered table of deadlines, crunch weeks highlighted and a list of unclear dates.

Done when: Every deadline is on one timeline I can copy into my calendar.

Outcome

The previous semester, tech journalist and computer science student Mahnoor Faisal fell behind on assignments and had to take several days off work to catch up. Before the next fall semester, Faisal uploaded the syllabi to NotebookLM instead of copying deadlines by hand and asked it to summarize the key dates as a timeline of assignments, quizzes and exams. Faisal says this saved tons of time and showed what to expect all semester. Faisal also gathered resources for the first few topics of each course, some from former students and some found online, and had NotebookLM explain the concepts to start ahead.
