Find forgotten online accounts from old signup emails with Claude Cowork and other AI agents
Ben Patterson wanted to know how many forgotten accounts were left over from years of testing products. For PCWorld, Patterson gave a prompt to Claude Cowork, Gemini Spark, Meta's Muse and a ChatGPT Dot: search the last 5 years of email for welcome, verification and password-reset messages, build a spreadsheet of services with first and last email dates, whether the service is on haveibeenpwned.com's list of breached sites, and its official account-deletion link, with the most dormant at the top, and don't sign in, reset passwords or contact anyone. All four returned spreadsheets in five minutes to half an hour; each found at least 50 accounts, and the ChatGPT Dot found 73. Patterson found accounts they'd forgotten, such as a Bowers & Wilkins account from 2022. About half the deletion links came back 'not found' or pointed to privacy FAQs.

Yuvraj Kashyap set ChatGPT Work to check a busy appointment booking site every 30 mins. After 6 days, it found an opening and booked it. Kashyap called it the first practical use that genuinely saved a lot of time and attention.

Dave W Plummer missed an important appearance and asked the ChatGPT desktop app, which has access to their Gmail, to work out how it happened. It found Plummer had noon in mind, the time of an earlier prep call, while the event started at 7:50 a.m. Pacific, with emails also mentioning 8:50 a.m. Mountain. When Codex then reconstructed the email trail, it found the organiser had cancelled the calendar invite sent to Plummer's regular address while sorting out a Teams login mismatch, and the later confirmation email had no new invite. With Codex, Plummer then set up a recurring agent that reads email threads, including changes and cancellations, adds missing calendar entries with the source email and link, and flags contradictions. Test alerts at first didn't notify on the iPhone; after checking alarms, sync and Focus settings, a test finally rang. It now checks every ten minutes while the Mac is awake; its first historical review was still running.

Ary Aranguiz connected ChatGPT to Gmail and asked it to create four labels: ACTION/Reply, ACTION/Decision, ACTION/Review and STATUS/Waiting. ChatGPT then reviewed 204 unread emails from the past seven days and proposed which belonged under each label, separating people waiting for a reply, invitations needing a decision, information to review and routine mail needing no action. It noticed the original label set was incomplete and recommended adding ACTION/Review. Aranguiz approved the proposals, and only then did it create the label and apply the labels. It didn't send, delete, archive, forward or mark anything as read.

Within five minutes of setting up Grok Bot, a poster with about 80k unread emails had it flag one message from four days earlier: the insurance company said their windshield replacement reimbursement check had been returned by the post office and needed a new address. The poster says it was the only email the bot flagged and that it saved them $2350.

Evan Solomon asked Claude in Chrome to fill out three web onboarding forms using information scattered across their Google Drive. It worked very well: it read the pages, found the information in Drive, filled the fields and handled multi-step forms with almost no hand-holding. But it took 574 model round-trips and about 223M tokens, roughly $350–400 in API-equivalent compute, and used up the Max plan's 5-hour window in one session. Solomon notes it was slow, got slower and pricier as the session grew, and that running it on the top model was a mistake for form-filling.

Hally Peck, a chief marketing officer in New York with two kids and a husband who also works full-time, used to schedule life only days or a week ahead. Peck gave Claude the kids' school calendars for the year, with holidays, vacations and parent-teacher conference dates, and had it add them to the family calendar and cross-check school events against existing plans. It flagged a few conflicts with work trips already booked. Catching them months in advance rather than days or weeks means the family can resolve or plan around them.

The writer behind the Stacktraced blog had months of SiriusXM trial-expiry emails from a single sender. They asked Gemini Spark to find every email from that address, report the count and date range before doing anything, then move them to Trash without touching any other sender. It found exactly 20 messages, all from that sender, and asked for confirmation. After a 'yes', it still asked for approval one email at a time, 20 separate clicks, before reporting all 20 moved to Trash. The writer checked: none left in the inbox, all 20 recoverable in Trash and nothing else disturbed, but notes native Gmail search would have been faster for a known sender.

Ali van der Laan found Claude struggled with Google Calendar on an iPhone and switched to ChatGPT for calendar management. Their first question was what they had on that week. ChatGPT gave the wrong time for an appointment, off by 24 hours, and then wrote reams justifying it.

Nick Davidov asked Claude Cowork to organise their spouse's desktop. It asked permission to delete temporary Office files, they agreed, and then it said "ooops": while renaming, it had deleted a folder with every photo the spouse had taken on their camera over 15 years. The deletion was done in the terminal, so nothing was in the Trash; iCloud had already synced the new structure, there was no Time Machine backup, and disk recovery tools found nothing. Apple pointed them to iCloud's recovery feature, which keeps removed iCloud Drive files for 30 days, and the photos started coming back. Their advice: don't let these tools near anything hard to repair or not under version control.

Android Police writer Akshay Bhalla tends to forget where things are put away, which made the yearly deep clean drag. This year Bhalla used Gemini voice commands to save items to Find Hub's 'Remembered' section as they went: passport, tax documents, birth certificates, spare house and car keys, even a tape measure, each with a photo of where it was stored. Asking Gemini 'Where did I put my passport?' brings back the spot and the picture. The cleaning took two hours instead of a full day, though items have to be updated by hand when moved.

Back from a week away, Abha Malpani Naismith had more than 9,400 unread Gmail messages. Claude couldn't act inside the connected inbox for them, so they switched to ChatGPT with Gmail connected. It analysed the inbox by sender, subject and category without opening emails, built a 'Safe List' of financial, legal, medical, school and travel mail never to touch without approval, and then helped archive, label, delete or unsubscribe in bulk. They archived or deleted more than 4,500 emails and reached inbox zero in about 30 minutes.

With Claude connected to their Gmail, J. McLaughlin asked for a snapshot of the mailbox, then for the highest-volume promotional senders: years of store deals, grocery ads and app notifications. Claude pulled unsubscribe links and wrote Gmail search queries for each round of bulk deletion, which McLaughlin ran and confirmed in Gmail themselves. In one sitting they deleted more than 47,000 emails, over half the mailbox, and got the inbox down to five things that mattered.

Andrew Ledet was tired of repeating a two-hour manual inbox clean-up. Working with Gemini, they built a Google Apps Script 'Janitor' that audits top senders, does a dry run, then clears old promotions, social and update emails while skipping anything from themselves, starred, or that looks like a receipt or order. The first run deleted more than 5,000 emails in a few minutes, and it now runs automatically every Monday at 3 a.m.

Emily Steinberg uploaded their children's school-year calendar to ChatGPT, had it list the events in a table first to check it got them right, then asked for a downloadable .ics file of calendar invitations and imported it. Steinberg repeated this for sports teams and after-school activities, says it saved at least an hour that season, and shared the file with other parents so they could load the events too.

With over 200K unread messages, mostly junk, a long-time Gmail user asked Grok to help sort auto-generated email into keep-as-important, News or Promos, and unsubscribe or spam. The user applied the filters manually using Grok's search criteria, which were easy to verify, and three days later says the inbox shows only email from real people and messages tagged important.

TechRadar's Eric Hal Schwartz set an event-triggered ChatGPT task on their Gmail: alert them only when an email required them to do something or came from family, explain it in one sentence, draft a reply, and never reply without their input. Over an afternoon with Gmail closed they got just 3 alerts (their bank, a family member whose drafted reply they sent after small edits, and an event itinerary change); afterwards they found only two emails they might have wanted earlier, neither urgent.

A poster connected their Gmail and calendar to ChatGPT, then asked it to list all their subscriptions from their emails, unsubscribe from all but the ones they wanted, create deletion rules for the rest, and delete Promotions, Updates, Social and Trash. They say they deleted over 23,000 emails and made their inbox usable again, and ChatGPT told them when it was finished.

A TechRadar editor connected Gmail to ChatGPT and asked it to write and send an email with a story idea, background and a source link. ChatGPT showed the exact email and asked them to Allow or Deny; after they approved, it arrived seconds later. But it failed when they tried to add an attachment, and the feature only works on the web for paid plans. Gemini told them it couldn't send email directly.

An Android Police writer says Gemini fixed their main Google Calendar complaint, adding entries by hand. They ask Gemini by voice to schedule calls while out, use it in Gmail to create events from invites, and send it screenshots of concert-ticket presale times to make reminders. They note it doesn't add guests automatically and the Gmail option doesn't always trigger on its own.

An Android Police writer plans the week each Sunday by writing out meetings, errands, bills and appointments in plain language and asking Gemini for a CSV to import into Google Calendar. The writer double-checks everything before importing, and says Gemini sometimes outputs plain text instead of a downloadable file, which they save as .csv themselves.

An Android Police writer replaced IFTTT, Medisafe and Todoist with Gemini scheduled actions they already had through Google AI Pro: a weekday morning briefing, a Monday news digest, two daily medication reminders and a morning top-three task list. They cancelled about $13 a month in subscriptions, but note Gemini only sends reminders (no dose tracking or interaction warnings) and that they rely on one company for everything, which makes them uneasy.

A parent screenshotted their son's soccer schedule, uploaded it to Gemini, asked it to create events with a 2-hour window and told it which family calendar to use. They say two minutes later every game was on the family calendar, saving about 15 minutes of manual entry.
