Rebuild 20 years of address history from Gmail for a rental or mortgage form with Gemini Spark
Ben Patterson had struggled the year before to list past addresses and dates for a co-op application. For PCWorld, Patterson gave Gemini's Spark agent, with its Gmail connector, a prompt asking it to search all mail for leases, move-in and deposit emails, utility start and stop notices, change-of-address confirmations and order shipping addresses, and build a spreadsheet with dates, a confidence level and links to the proving emails. Within a few minutes Spark produced a reasonably accurate rental history back to 2006, marking which dates it was confident about and which it had inferred from orders and bills. Patterson ran the same prompt with ChatGPT, Claude and Muse agents and got similar results, with Spark's the most thorough.

Leonardo Stenico needed to renew a passport at the closest office. Claude checked the distances from home on Google Maps and booked the nearest office in Stenico's browser, then gave a pre-appointment to-do list. When Stenico asked for reminders, it ran a script to add them to macOS Reminders.

Jagger, who writes the AI the boring newsletter, was asked for an invitation letter during a visa appointment, and it was on a Mac at home. From a phone, Jagger opened Claude's Dispatch tab and typed "Find my visa docs as I need a few of them." About thirty seconds later Claude had searched Documents, Desktop and Downloads, found a Visa folder and listed its contents. After "Email me my invitation letter.", Claude attached the PDF in Mac Mail and sent it to Jagger's Gmail while the officer was still processing the other documents. Printing the page at the counter still cost $3.

Iliyana Stareva had three weeks to move a family of four from Spain back to the Netherlands. They opened a Claude project called "Move Back to the Netherlands", gave it their history, details about their kids and what was already sorted (they still had Dutch bank accounts and a phone number), and asked for a full plan covering housing, schools and childcare, moving both cars, taxes and municipality paperwork. In five minutes the plan surfaced a few things they had forgotten. Claude then built a tracker in Notion with owner, deadline and category for each task plus a "this week" view, and put key dates into Google Calendar, including a call to the municipality. Some items didn't apply and some deadlines moved once checked against their work calendar, so they spent ten more minutes adjusting it.

Sarah Silbert was using Claude to choose checked luggage for a trip to Germany and asked, almost as an afterthought, what else needed doing before the trip. Among the obvious items, Claude said to check the passport had three months of validity past the return date. It didn't: it expired about two months after the return flight, one month short, five days before departure. Inside the 14-day window for an urgent passport agency appointment, Silbert got a slot the next day, paid the $60 expedite fee and picked up a new passport the following day, using the State Department website as the official source.

Before moving within Denmark, Vera Termühlen-Enger's family first talked through what each of them needed: school, nature, community, health support, job opportunities, and for their son, a skate park nearby. Only then did they ask ChatGPT to analyse possible cities against those criteria. It suggested 8 places; they crossed 3 off from what they already knew and visited the remaining 5 during the winter holidays, walking around, speaking to schools and talking to people. They chose Odense, a city they hadn't known and probably wouldn't have found without ChatGPT, though the final reasons were the school principal, the atmosphere and the neighbourhood.

Nicole Leffer had a complicated move the following week: belongings going to two different locations, the busiest work month ever and sciatica that made packing painful. Leffer gave ChatGPT Deep Research the from and to addresses, the schedule and the need for a same-day mover that could pack and transport in one day, and asked it to check reviews and track record. Within minutes it presented the best options. Leffer checked that the top pick really had the 1600+ 5-star Google reviews it claimed, and fifteen minutes after entering the prompt was on the phone booking. Leffer says the movers were perfect, with fair pricing.

Lifehacker Japan's editor-in-chief Misa Maruyama, planning a May move within Shibuya, asked ChatGPT for a checklist of council paperwork and personal tasks before and after the move, ordered by urgency, with checkboxes and suited to someone who can only prepare evenings and weekends. Maruyama asked for a second list of personal tasks, then for both tables in a printable format, and pasted the result into a notes app. Trying the same in Gemini, they could export the table straight to Google Sheets to share tasks with household members, though the links didn't carry over.

Newly moved to Germany with little German, a poster had Gemini run through their Anmeldung (residence registration) appointment the night before: what they'd likely be asked, which words would come up, and what a landlord confirmation form is and why it matters. At the office they recognised words they'd seen, used Google Translate for the rest, and walked out with the stamped registration certificate.

A foreign resident in Osaka found a formal, indirect notice from their building's new owners. They photographed it and ChatGPT translated it, explained the implied meaning and flagged what to ask next; they checked the points with a real estate friend and emailed a formal Japanese reply. At the meeting, the owners asked tenants to leave and offered to cover moving costs and new-apartment fees, and they recorded and translated the meeting with Gemini and ChatGPT.

Nine months after moving a family of four from Connecticut to near Madrid, Rebecca Cretella uses Claude to handle daily life in a new language. In a few weeks it helped troubleshoot a flashing freezer indicator on the fridge in under a minute, chat with a doctor through the family's insurance app when a son came home with a hematoma, translate bloodwork results, and understand an audit letter from Spain's tax authority about a package a neighbour had sent.

A product manager says a friend moving house used ChatGPT to rank areas by commute, local shops and safety before choosing a place, then Gemini to build a moving checklist and rough budget in Google Sheets, then ChatGPT image generation for interior design ideas. The friend, who doesn't work in tech, said it was easier than expected.

Moving house, starting a new job and turning 40 within two weeks, a poster asked ChatGPT to act as their moving assistant and create a day-by-day plan up to the move. They shared their prompt, which asks for 3 to 5 priority tasks a day, a packing focus, admin tasks, 15-minute meals using what's left in the kitchen, a moving-day food plan and a first-day survival box checklist. They say the clear to-do list made everything feel more manageable.

Needing to leave Canada, a poster and their partner gave ChatGPT a list of requirements: what they loved about Vancouver, economic viability, quality of life and more. It suggested a handful of options with Munich at the top, and they moved there with little German, having never spent more than 24 hours in the city.

Moving out with belongings stored at a friend's house while staying with family before three weeks in Europe, Nicole Leffer asked ChatGPT for a way to know what was in each box without opening it. It suggested NFC sticker tags (100 for about $26) and walked through setting up iPhone Shortcuts so each tag opens a numbered note. As boxes were packed, including by movers, each note got the box's destination, photos and a list of contents. Tapping a box now shows what's inside, and searching notes found an external monitor without opening boxes.

Moving into a newly bought apartment, Mitja Rutnik uploaded the purchase documents to Gemini to ask about confusing clauses, such as a warranty policy that only referenced laws, and set up a NotebookLM notebook with the full 100+ page document set for quick look-ups. Gemini also advised on colour schemes, furniture proportions, counter-to-table clearance, rug size and lumens and colour temperature per room, suggested how to tackle bathroom floor stains, summarized warranty rights when raising defects with the developer, and gave layout ideas from the floor plan. Rutnik still had to build a 3D model in a separate app.

A Japanese note.com writer used ChatGPT to manage the many small, time-sensitive tasks of a move, starting with 'Summarize what I need to do for my move' and adding things as they came up, like using up the fridge. They say they did the procedures themselves but barely had to think about what to do next.

Mashable's writer asked ChatGPT how much they needed to save from each paycheck to move over 1,100 miles to Chicago, with rent of $1,000–$1,500 in mind. They say the math was spotty: unless the prompt specified July 1, 2024, it assumed other dates, and once it calculated 10 pay periods instead of the 7 they gave. After tweaking, it gave a number that matched their own math. Apartment-search GPTs were a worse experience than Googling.
