Before you start, ask me 1–3 short questions about the details below and wait for my answers. Once I've answered, confirm the plan in one line and run the whole task start to finish. Goal: Understand my employer's benefit options and choose the plans that fit my family, with the math shown. Questions to ask me first: - How many people are covered, and how often do you expect to see doctors? - Which plans are offered (PPO, HDHP, HSA, FSA)? - Any regular prescriptions or planned procedures? Inputs (fill in or confirm): - Benefits guide or comparison chart: [PDF] - Household and expected care: [HOUSEHOLD / VISITS / PRESCRIPTIONS] - Enrollment deadline: [DATE] Rules: - Explain each plan in plain English before comparing. - Estimate the total yearly cost of each plan (premiums plus expected out-of-pocket) and show the math. - Use only numbers from my guide; mark anything you assumed. - List questions I should confirm with HR. Checkpoint: Show me the plan explanations first so I can correct anything before the cost comparison. If you get stuck: If the guide is missing a number you need, ask me. Verify before you finish: Recheck each yearly total against the guide's premiums, deductibles and copays. Output: Plain-English plan summaries, a yearly cost table, an HSA/FSA recommendation and a one-page enrollment checklist. Done when: I know which plans to pick and have a checklist for enrollment day.

Outcome
Every open enrollment, Tom's Guide AI editor Amanda Caswell worried about making an expensive mistake with the family's health coverage. This year Caswell uploaded the plan comparison chart and later the full benefits guide to ChatGPT, and asked it to explain the plans for a beginner, compare the expected yearly cost of two plans for a family of five, weigh an HSA against an FSA and point out benefits worth choosing for a family with young kids. ChatGPT produced a side-by-side breakdown of potential annual spending, explained contribution limits, tax savings and rollover rules, and highlighted a plan that costs less per month than a Starbucks latte. It then made a one-page enrollment checklist, and Caswell printed it and completed enrollment in less than 15 minutes.
