Test whether six AI agents catch a clash between a meeting and a call to Mom

PartialEvidence: Described by posterPosted Last checked

In a WIRED test, only ChatGPT Dots and Claude Duet caught a 2 pm calendar clash; the other agents missed it.

How to use this

  1. Tap Copy prompt.

New to this? What's a prompt?

A prompt is the message you send to the AI tool. Copy the one on this page, put your own details where it asks, and read the answer before you act on it.

Prompt

Recreated prompt

The source didn't share its exact prompt, so we wrote one from what it describes. The result shown is the source's, not ours.

What the prompt labels mean

The person didn't share their exact words, so we wrote this from what they described. We haven't tested it, and they didn't use this exact version.

Watch my email and my calendar, and if a reminder in my email clashes with something already on my calendar, message me before it happens and suggest other times that would work.

Try this in:

Sends the Recreated prompt shown above. ChatGPT and Grok open with it filled in, and ChatGPT may send it straight away. Gemini and Claude open empty, so we copy the prompt for you to paste. Every button also copies it.

Opens in a new tab. We don't see what you send.

Optional stronger version

Our rewrite with extra checks. The poster didn't test it.

Before you start, ask me 1–3 short questions about the details below and wait for my answers. Once I've answered, confirm the plan in one line and run the whole task start to finish.

Goal: Check my email and calendar together every morning and warn me early about any clash, with other times that would work.

Questions to ask me first:
- Which email and calendar accounts should I check?
- How early do you want a warning?
- Which events can never move?

Inputs (fill in or confirm):
- Email accounts: [ACCOUNTS]
- Calendars: [CALENDARS]
- Events that can't move: [LIST OR RULE]
- Warning time: [FOR EXAMPLE 3 HOURS BEFORE]

Rules:
- Read reminder emails I send myself as well as calendar events.
- Check every timed reminder against the calendar, including time zones.
- Never move or decline anything yourself; just warn me.
- Suggest two or three other times that fit around fixed events.

Checkpoint: Each morning, send me the day's clashes, or a short note saying there are none.

If you get stuck: If a time in an email is unclear, flag it as a possible clash and ask.

Verify before you finish: Recheck the calendar right before sending, so the warning isn't out of date.

Output: A short message naming both items, the overlap and suggested other times.

Done when: I get every clash early enough to fix it, with options I can pick from.

Outcome

To test whether always-on agents act before a problem happens, Reece Rogers of WIRED put an unmovable 2 pm source meeting on Google Calendar, then emailed a personal account a made-up note that Rogers's mom was getting out of the hospital that day and needed a call at 2 pm. Only two of the six agents caught the clash. ChatGPT Dots (5/5) flagged it almost immediately and asked whether calling before the meeting or after 3 would fit the discharge timing. Claude Duet (4/5) flagged the conflict hours ahead but didn't suggest alternatives. Grok Bot, Instinct and Muse (2/5 each) missed it and only offered ways to avoid it next time, such as checking reminder emails against the calendar. Gemini Spark (1/5) didn't flag the overlap or suggest a fix.

Evidence: Described by posterThe person describes what happened in words, without screenshots or video.

Known limitations

PartialThe source says it only partly worked, or had a significant problem a person had to deal with.

What went wrong: Only two of six agents caught the clash, and only ChatGPT Dots suggested other times; four missed it.

Context: The scenario was staged by the writer, and the exact setup instructions aren't quoted, so the prompt here is recreated. The scores are the writer's own ratings. The same article also tested a lunch order, which is a separate case.
