Turn two weeks of paper classroom surveys into a data sheet, report and parent email with Gemini
Jessica McKellar volunteers as chair of the parent advisory committee at their daughter's two-campus preschool. When the school changed food programmes and got a lot of parent feedback, it ran two weeks of classroom surveys tracked on paper. McKellar photographed the sheets and gave them to Gemini, which turned them into spreadsheets of raw data, analysed and summarised them in a management report for the administrative team, and drafted an email for the school to send parents explaining the results.

A Hacker News commenter and their 10-year-old couldn't get an electromagnet experiment for the school science fair to work. On a Gemini Live video call, Gemini went through the possible causes and spotted that the insulation hadn't been scraped off properly at the end of the wire connected to the battery, which the parent couldn't see. The apparatus then worked as expected, and the commenter says the child and two friends were impressed.

A Hacker News commenter's daughter had finished every printable version of a favourite maths maze puzzle they could find online. The parent uploaded a picture of the puzzle to Gemini and asked for a website that generates random ones; in under a minute it produced a working generator. Gemini then added the child's ideas (more operations, larger grids), and they went on to build generators for other puzzle ideas on the spot. The commenter admits the code wasn't pretty but says it did the job.

Matthew Wemyss, who has dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia, pointed Gemini's vision mode at the maths practice questions their Year 2 daughter had been set. Wemyss didn't use it to do the work; it talked them through an example so they understood what was being asked. After that the two of them spent the next half hour working through the questions together.

Away for Canada's February long weekend, Android Police's Jade Lassalle wanted a fun-filled plan for their partner and 3-year-old daughter. 'Help me plan my weekend' got clarifying questions and vibe options; 'Help me plan a fun weekend with my 3-year-old' gave much better results. They found Google Maps searches for things to do in Hamilton showed mostly restaurants and shopping, not the fun and free ideas they wanted.

Each day a child completes all tasks, a green progress bar unlocks 20% of their weekend iPad time; hitting all five days unlocks a badge and all of their weekend iPad time. Gemini worked out formulas Darmody says were more complex than anything they could have written, and also gave a prompt for prototyping an app.

They say it produced a detailed, accurate plan that became a colour-coded web page the daughter can view anywhere, marking exam days differently without being asked; it took about 15 minutes and left the daughter more enthusiastic about revising.

Each week an automation Elliott built sends that week's topics, curriculum standards, homeschool laws and their interests to Gemini, which writes the full assignment list around what they care about.
